IN THE APRIL in-presence SESSION: Danish and Turkish students and teachers hosted by Italian group

The students of the ERASMUS project (6 students from Denmark, 6 from Turkey and 12 Italians belonging to the Newton high school), collaborated in the implementation of a survey on the perception of fake news and disinformation in general, conditioned by prejudgements and preconceptions, cognitive biases, which everyone puts into practice, more or less consciously, in their approach to news, through social networks, television, radio, online newspapers; the survey was carried out through interviews with tourists and patrons passing through the monumental areas of Piazza Navona and Piazza del Pantheon on 20 April 2023, with the aim of collecting the broadest representative sampling of the interviewees, coming from various European and non-European countries. At the end of the interviews, the students carried out the analysis of the data collected and the subsequent processing of the results with the relative conclusions.

HEREBY IN DETAIL: On Monday Turkish and Danish students’ arrival at the school, an ice-breaking meeting took place and a kick-off meeting for the weekly activities, after which also a short visit of the school premises; on Tuesday Participation of guest students in classes; Project start: Students of the three countries work on the topic “Relevance and reliability of information. Cognitive bias and fake news.”; workshop to prepare the set of questionnaires for a survey focused on the topic. Due to a lack of availability from the hosting Italian television and radio broadcast (RAI), the visit was not possible to schedule. On Thursday, in groups the students worked with questionnaires on outdoor interviews (in Navona Square, Pantheon Square) to collect data from interviewed people and to implement statistics charts at school; on Friday, The students acquired processed data from survey and made charts and graphs from them, afterward held a discussion on the issues that had come out of the survey and collected the final conclusions on the project.
